Target group

Young single people aged 16-25 with low support needs who are homeless or in housing need and have a local connection to the Bristol area. Applicants must be willing to engage with the support on offer.

Will not accept

No automatic exclusions. All applications individually assessed.

Referral agencies

Accept self referrals and referrals from any agency. All referrals via Pathways. Many referrals come from Bristol Homeless Advice Centre, Connexions and Bristol Social Services. Accept referrals direct from prison.

Referral procedure

Self or agency referrals. Write or phone Mon-Fri 9am-5pm to request application form. References needed prior to interview. Require proof of ID and background information. Operate a waiting list.

Support services

73 full and part time staff available Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Regular visits, usually once or twice per week to residents. Action plans with agreed outcomes reviewed every 6 months. Practical and emotional support and advocacy offered around independent living skills, budgeting, accessing specialist health and advice services and dealing with nuisance and neighbour disputes.

Access to move-on

Staff help with resettlement in keywork including assistance to apply to Bristol City Council housing register. Can offer follow-up support for up to 2 years.

1625 Independent People provides supported accommodation for young single people aged 16-25 with housing needs and low support needs. All applicants are expected to be willing to engage with the support on offer as a condition of their tenancy. Some accommodation is reserved for people referred through Bristol's Rough Sleepers Initiative. The service has strong links with Connexions West of England.
